“Hungry hummingbird” is a happy new piece. My mom calls it cheerful and uplifting!

“Parrot” was a fun painting for me to do. I enjoyed exaggerating the beauty of the bird through distorted lines and colour blotches. Sometimes I think I overdid it. Other times, I think it’s just as it should be.

“West coast chickadee” was done as a commission for my cousin. He had asked for a bird in my signature style.
When I began this painting, I had no idea how the finished product would appear. I didn't even know the colour palate I was aiming for. I continued to combine bright colour with bold and sporadic lines until the painting felt complete.

“West coast hummingbird” is one of my favourites. I did this painting after completing a pencil crayon sketch of the same hummingbird. I fell in love with the shape and colours of the animal, and wanted to recreate it on a much larger scale.

“Macy” was done to commemorate my family dog, Macy. She passed away earlier this year, and it was a heartbreaking loss. My mother held a very special bond with Macy, so this painting is for her!

Like most of my pieces, “The dance” took various forms before becoming what it is. It originated as an abstract piece with a much different colour scheme. Slowly, after much trial and error, it became this.

“Cannonball” was done in 2020. I painted her after coming across the sweetest dog while walking through the neighbourood. She was perched on the fence, just as she is in the painting. I didn’t know the dog’s real name, so I named her Cannonball.

“Red sea” is the first painting I completed in 2020.
This painting went through a serious evolution. It began as a garden scene, then evolved to a frog and then a hummingbird. By the time I decided to follow my instinct to paint something abstract, the canvas has countless layers of paint on it.
When I look at this painting, I’m reminded to trust my process (to learn more about my process, click here!). I’m also encouraged to see my failed ideas as experiences that enrich a final piece.

I painted “Tofino blue” after a weekend getaway to Tofino, BC (Canada’s surf town!).
This little guy visited our campsite consistently throughout our weekend stay. I snapped a couple of photos, knowing I’d want to paint the beautiful bird at some point.

The skull portion was inspired by a face painting that my friend had done. I loved the look of the half skull, and thought it would translate well to paint!

“Flamingos” was the first original painting I completed. I did it when I was 21 years old. This is the piece that made me fall madly in love with painting. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart!
